Captivated by the tactile, utilitarian qualities of the basket and other historically significant manifestations from the fiber arts, artist, Brooke Marks-Swanson seeks to interpret that purpose through her contemporary works of adornment.

With extraordinary skill and creative ability, Swanson casts a web of crafted ingenuity. By hand, she knits deep, purple leather strands to form a circular composition that may gracefully fall from the ear. Within its lattice, sweet impressions of gray, Japanese fiber purveys her intricate work. Atop, undulating discs of darkened silver are brushed by the majesty of lustrous gold leaf, which bears the crown of the piece. From their throw, the composition delightfully sways in tandem with the body. On further glance, their textured surfaces leave us gazing in awe.
